Africa-Press – Eswatini. Ghanaian retail technology firm Tendo Technologies has revealed its strategic acquisition of Shopa, another Ghana-based company, through a cash-and-stock agreement designed to transform supply chain infrastructure throughout Africa.
Established in 2021, Tendo empowers individuals to start and expand online businesses without upfront capital by linking them to suppliers. The platform supports a strong network of over 10,000 retail resellers across Ghana and Nigeria, serving more than 42,000 customers with a wide variety of products such as fashion, beauty, electronics, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
Founded in 2021, Shopa focuses on enhancing FMCG distribution via its tech platform that links retailers directly to suppliers and manufacturers. Serving over 3,000 retailers in Ghana, Shopa’s advanced operational systems have boosted stocking efficiency and profitability for both small shop owners and larger retailers.
Following the acquisition, Shopa will be rebranded as Tendo Retail, a new division within Tendo dedicated to equipping informal distributors across Africa with advanced technology to grow their businesses. Shopa’s CEO and co-founder, Frank Addae, will lead this division, leveraging his deep expertise in digitalizing informal retail supply chains.
The integration seeks to combine Shopa’s extensive offline distributor network with Tendo’s online retailers, broadening product selections and creating more opportunities for entrepreneurs. With FMCG accounting for over 30% of Tendo’s current volume and steadily increasing, this partnership will strengthen Tendo’s offerings and secure a reliable supply for its resellers.
Both Tendo and Shopa have benefited from funding and support through the Catalyst Fund Inclusive Digital Commerce Accelerator, showcasing the impact of accelerator-backed startups in Africa’s growing tech ecosystem.
This acquisition represents a major milestone in Tendo’s mission to simplify supply chains, enabling small businesses and entrepreneurs across Africa to launch and grow their ventures without facing traditional obstacles.
