DPM THULI DLADLA CONDEMNS GBV, CALLS FOR ACTION

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government has condemned the surge of senseless killings and abuse of women and girls across the nation.

In recent weeks, the country has been rocked by chilling incidents of young girls and women vanishing only to be found raped and murdered, painting a grim picture of a deepening crisis.

However, even in the face of this tragic wave, there is a clarion call for collective action and hope.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Senator Thulisile Dladla, declared, “Every life lost to such brutality is one too many… It is unacceptable and must STOP!”

This powerful message reflects government’s commitment to ensure the safety and dignity of every woman and girl.

The statistics shared by the Royal Eswatini Police Service are alarming: in 2024 alone, 14 308 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were reported, with over9, 600 incidents perpetrated against women. Equally troubling are the 540 GBV cases reported against children just this year—five of whom were murdered. Yet amid these dark numbers shines a growing resolve within the nation to fight back.

Dladla has rallied emaSwati not to be discouraged, but to rise and take action from every corner of society. She emphasized that the perpetrators are not strangers but live within our communities, making vigilance and reporting crucial weapons in this fight.

In this spirit, government is calling on all emaSwati to break the silence and report suspicious or predatory behaviour.

“By reporting such, you could be saving a life from another senseless killing,” the DPM noted.

Eswatini Positive News stands with this call for action, recognizing that while the statistics are harrowing, they also illuminate a shared determination to protect our sisters, daughters, and mothers. The struggle against GBV may be daunting, but through unity and relentless vigilance, Eswatini can forge a safer future for all.

Let us continue to champion a country where every woman and girl can live free from fear, because their lives matter, and together, we will protect them.
