Africa-Press – Eswatini. Colani Hlatjwako, the One Billion Rising Africa Coordinator says, three hundred(300) women in the rural areas have benefitted from the organization’s MTN Eswatini sponsorship.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, the Coordinator said, women were supported to establish their own businesses as part of the efforts to promote financial independence among others, and end Gender Based Violence(GBV).

“We say let the community be a place of protection, of trust and of sharing both our burdens and our successes. As we do this it is important that we restore and grow the value of caring for each other. One Billion Rising is in partnership with Journey of Hope for Women and Girls in Eswatini. The organization has established community circles where communities discuss issues affecting them, including GBV and come up with their own community driven strategies. In these circles, we encourage women and the youth to support one another, as well as empowering them on their rights; they also formulate and implement their own solutions, including working together towards economic empowerment, and are supported to grow their businesses. We also hold dialogues with men and boys to understand their experience and strengthen their positive contribution towards addressing GBV and violence against women and girls”, said the One Billion Rising Coordinator.

The Coordinator further mentioned that currently, forty(40)community circles have been established by One Billion Rising Eswatini in the four regions adding that, fifteen(15) of them have been established with the support from MTN Eswatini Foundation.

As a result, the Coordinator said, three hundred(300)women have been funded to start their businesses at community level.
