Africa-Press – Eswatini. Hope, creativity, and determination were on full display at Bethel Vocational Training Centre on August 15, 2025, as 89 young graduates completed the Eswatini Youth Empowerment Programme (EYEP).

The programme is delivered by the International Youth Foundation (IYF) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aiming to equip young Eswatini citizens with practical skills and entrepreneurial mindsets.

Over a period of three months, participants received hands-on training in Welding, Upholstery, and Fashion Design. They also honed essential skills in Microsoft Computer Applications, Entrepreneurship, and Mindset Change, equipping them to navigate both the formal and informal sectors successfully. The combination of technical expertise and personal development ensures these young artisans are not only job-ready but also capable of creating opportunities for themselves and others.

During the graduation ceremony, trainees showcased their talents through a variety of impressive projects. These included braai stands, agricultural tools, custom-made sofas and headboards, and uniquely designed garments, demonstrating both skill and creativity. The exhibition offered a glimpse into the potential these young graduates hold to contribute meaningfully to Eswatini’s economic growth and community development.

“This graduation is not the finish line; it is the start of your journey,” a programme representative told the graduates. “You are now equipped to create opportunities, inspire others, and make a difference in your communities.”

The young artisans, who hail from Lubombo and Shiselweni regions, expressed excitement and determination to apply their skills in practical ways. Many shared plans to mentor peers, spark local innovation, and even launch their own businesses, signaling a promising future for youth-driven development across the country.

The EYEP initiative highlights the transformative power of practical, skills-based training combined with mindset development. By nurturing creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit, it is preparing a generation of confident, skilled young leaders who are ready to shape their own success and positively impact their communities.

Through programmes like EYEP, Eswatini is investing in its youth, ensuring that they not only have opportunities to thrive but also the tools to uplift others and contribute to sustainable national growth.
