Africa-Press – Eswatini. Nkosikhona Matsebula, a student at Southern African Nazarene University, is proving that young people can create their own opportunities instead of waiting for employment.

He has completed a diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship and is yet to graduate, but he is already putting his knowledge into practice by farming cabbages and spinach to generate income.

Matsebula is from Piggs Peak Malanti, he began his educational journey at Ndlalane Primary School and later attended Tikhuba High School both at Siteki in the Lubombo Region. These formative experiences inspired his determination to pursue entrepreneurship as a practical path for youth.

Using personal savings from his Student Living Allowance, Matsebula started small-scale vegetable farming. The spinach he harvested early on not only provided immediate income but also allowed him to reinvest in the garden, purchasing additional seeds and farming inputs. Within just a few months, his crops were ready for market, demonstrating that careful planning and consistent effort can produce tangible results.

Matsebula supplies his produce to local outlets, including Spar, and to Fundzisa Live, an NGO that provides healthy food to ART patients at Piggs Peak Government Hospital. He developed a strong relationship with Fundzisa Live during his internship, which has since helped him expand his market reach and contribute meaningfully to the community.

Matsebula’s story is an inspiring example for young people who are still seeking employment. He encourages youth to use their skills and resources to create opportunities. “Make use of your profession or talents instead of waiting for someone to hire you. Create a job,” he advises. “Not only does this help you, but it also creates opportunities for your peers and others in your community.”

Through his farming initiative, Matsebula is showing that entrepreneurship can be both sustainable and impactful. By producing in-demand vegetables and supplying local businesses and NGOs, he supports himself financially while contributing to the community’s wellbeing.

His achievements serve as a reminder that youth entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for economic empowerment, showing that combining education with practical application opens doors to self-sufficiency and inspires others to take initiative.
