Africa-Press – Eswatini. A 21 year old, Ntandonhle Nyatsi is proving that determination and passion can turn simple dreams into reality. Originally from Bulunga and currently pursuing a Bachelor of Secondary Education at the University of Eswatini, she took a bold step in 2024 and started her own poultry business at Mbikwakhe, driven not by money alone, but by a deep love for farming.
“My love for farming started way back. Raising animals has always felt natural to me,” says Nyatsi. With startup support from her aunt, she ventured into broiler production,a business she says is ideal for young people. “Broilers grow fast. In six to eight weeks, they’re ready for the market. If you manage them well, the money comes back quickly.”
She’s now well versed in the feeding process, carefully transitioning her chickens from starter to grower and finally to finisher feed. Maintaining a strict feeding routine and ensuring the birds get the right nutrients at each stage has become part of her daily rhythm. But while the rewards are promising, she admits that the journey hasn’t been without its setbacks.
One of the major challenges she faces is keeping the chickens healthy. Broilers are delicate and can die quickly without proper vaccination and hygiene, so biosecurity is key. Feed is another concern prices often fluctuate, but she says cutting corners isn’t an option, as poor nutrition affects both growth and meat quality. Still, Ntandonhle remains focused and hopeful.
Her dream is to one day own a recognised poultry brand that supplies major outlets. She believes that with consistency, her business will grow and earn the trust of loyal customers. She’s already working on building a name for herself, guided by clear goals and a strong sense of purpose.
Ntandonhle encourages other young people to look at farming not as a fallback, but as a viable business path. She believes in starting small, learning along the way, and investing time into proper research. She also values mentorship and is happy to share advice with anyone willing to learn.
She knows that success doesn’t happen overnight. It requires patience, focus, and a willingness to grow through every challenge. With steady support from her community and her own inner drive, Ntandonhle is carving out her space in the agricultural world.
