Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini National Youth Council (ENYC) has launched its Agribusiness Accelerator programme, providing seed capital and mentorship to 92 youth-owned agricultural enterprises, including seven youth with disabilities, as part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship.
The launch took place on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Ludzeludze Youth Centre.
The programme, announced at Ludzeludze Youth Centre, targets youth aged 18 to 35 who are pursuing or planning to start agricultural ventures. According to ENYC CEO Lwazi Mamba, youth unemployment in Eswatini remains a serious challenge, with nearly 49% of young people struggling to find work, particularly in the Manzini region. “Agriculture presents real opportunities for income generation and job creation. This programme is designed to help young people turn their ideas into viable businesses,” Mamba said.
ENYC CEO Lwazi Mamba celebrated the potential of young people to drive economic growth. “Agriculture offers exciting opportunities for our youth to create jobs and generate income. Today, we are helping our young innovators take the first step towards achieving their dreams,” he said.
The programme attracted 732 applications, with 140 shortlisted for field verification. A total of 91 projects were selected, representing all four regions and including cooperatives and individual entrepreneurs. The E540 000 budget was equitably distributed, ensuring that every region benefits.
Mamba stressed that the initiative goes beyond funding. Beneficiaries will receive ongoing mentorship and guidance to ensure their businesses grow sustainably. He also encouraged communities, the private sector, and institutions to support these young producers by purchasing their products. “Let us be the market they need. These youth have the talent and determination to supply high-quality produce locally and beyond,” he said.
The ENYC Agribusiness Accelerator builds on earlier youth empowerment initiatives, with over E2 million invested in youth entrepreneurship this year. “This is the beginning of a journey full of possibilities. With support, mentorship, and access to markets, our youth can transform agriculture and their communities,” Mamba concluded.
