AU Peace and Security Council Field Mission in South Sudan

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the AU and UNECA, Ambassador Hirut Zemene, has participated in the AU PSC field mission conducted to South Sudan to assess the current situation in the country, including the national election anticipated for December 2026.

It also conducted an in-depth dialogue with the South Sudanese stakeholders to get the latest on the Security situation in the country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In their assessment mission, the Council members had an audience with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Foreign Minister Monday Semaya K. Kumba, members of the High-level Committee of the Transitional Council, the National Election Commission, the National Constitution Review Commission, and representatives of civil society organisations.

The council members also met the AU liaison office in Juba, representatives of R- JEMIC and UNMISS.

The delegation was led by the chair for the month of August the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. The council is expected to issue a communique at the end of its mission.
