Africa-Press – Ethiopia. A contestant from the reality television show Big Brother Mzansi was disqualified after they allegedly ‘physically violated’ another housemate.

Big Brother announced in a statement on Wednesday that they would disqualify 22-year-old contestant Kay B, real name Florence Mphirime, after a claim made by fellow housemate Beekay, 23, real name Bokang Chephetsa.

According to a press release, Kay B is “a final-year education student from Bloemfontein and CEO of a training academy”; she also does model work.

“In light of a conversation in the Big Brother Mzansi house concerning a housemate (Beekay) who claimed that he was physically violated by fellow housemate (Kay B), Big Brother investigated the matter further as the safety of all housemates is of utmost importance,” a statement from the TV show read.

“After careful consideration, taking into account the serious nature of the claim, Big Brother has decided that the housemate in question (Kay B) will be disqualified from the Big Brother house,” they continued.

The decision came after an educational session with all the housemates on Sunday to raise awareness about gender-based violence.

In a clip uploaded alongside the statement, the contestants were educated on consent.

“So, the message was clear that gender-based violence, even though commonly skewed to one gender, applies to both genders,” the Big Brother voice said.

“Section 16 from the rule book under sexual assault and sexual violence states the following: An act in which a housemate sexually touches a fellow housemate without their consent will be regarded as sexual assault,” the voice continued.

“This includes but is not limited to all forms of coercing, blackmailing, groping or physically forcing a housemate to perform sexual acts – generally all forms of unwanted sexual contact falls into this category and is strictly prohibited,” the voice said.

The voice then addressed Kay B directly, saying other housemates went to her on separate occasions to address her behaviour regarding boundaries and consent.

“They have clearly expressed discomfort with repeated sexual advances in form of conversation and inappropriate touching,” the voice said to Kay B.

She was then disqualified under section 16 of the rule book.

The Big Brother statement said:

“Due to the seriousness of this incident and the fact that the housemate in question was in the voting round for elimination this week, voting for housemates will be closed immediately to ensure fairness for all remaining housemates.”

Big Brother Mzansi has stirred controversy before. Earlier this season, contestant Ash-ley Ogle made insensitive comments toward Kay B, who is a rape survivor and shared her experiences with the other housemates.

During the fourth season last year, two contestants were reprimanded for inappropriate sexual comments, with one being disqualified.
