Education sector review starts Wednesday

Africa-Pressuganda. The Ministry of Education and Sports will tomorrow open this year’s review of the performance of the previous financial year 2019/20.

The review workshop will take place from December 9- 10, 2020 at Hotel Africana in Kampala with 120 participants attending physically on a representative basis and over 200 participants attending virtually on Zoom. The event will also be streamed live on Facebook and Twitter.

This is aimed at drawing lessons which will guide the implementation of the sector planned activities for the current financial year 2020/21 and to inform the budgetary process for the coming financial year 2021/22; in line with the third National Development Plan (NDP) and Program Implementation Action Plan for the Human Capital Development Programme (2020-2025).

The theme for this year’s education and sports sector review is Adapting Teaching and Learning for Sustained Learning Outcomes. The theme necessitates the adoption of creative and sustainable ways of ensuring that teaching/training and learning continue to take place despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The education ministry’s permanent secretary Alex Kakooza says that the main objective of the 27th education and sports sector review is to appraise and validate the performance of the education and sports sector review for the period July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, and identify high-level priorities for the financial year 2021/22 planning and budgeting.

The review will be on the status on agreed indicators to assess sector-level performance as stipulated in the ministerial policy statement 2019/20, and the performance of the sector undertakings that were agreed upon during the 2019 education and sports sector review workshop and new undertakings for the financial year 2021/22.
