
Africa-Press – Ethiopia. Ethiopian delegation led by Minister of Health, Mekdes Daba is participating in the 156th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board that commenced today.
In her remarks, the minister highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment in advancing health with a focus on primary health care, local manufacturing, health and care workforce as well as health financing.
She also called for enhanced collaboration and partnership for health system strengthening and resilience.
Mekdes emphasized WHO’s unique role in setting global norms and standards in health and called for support in their adaptation, implementation and impact in countries more than ever.
Ethiopia also acknowledged the achievements in the recently amended International Health Regulations and called all Member States to finalize the negotiations of the WHO Pandemic Agreement by May 2025.
The Executive Board meeting is expected to discuss 47 items and sub-items from February 3-11, 2025 including its program budget and sustainable financing.
