Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) has called on Ethiopian diaspora communities to prepare and submit national agendas aimed at addressing the country’s pressing challenges.

Chief Commissioner Prof. Mesfin Araya announced that the Commission will soon begin collecting agendas from Ethiopian communities abroad.

The agenda collection process has already been completed in 11 regions, including the Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations.

The dialogue seeks to resolve long-standing national issues by promoting reconciliation and finding common ground.

Prof. Mesfin also confirmed that initial steps have also been taken to launch the process in the Tigray Region.

Political parties in Tigray have welcomed the ENDC’s August 1, 2025, visit to Mekelle, viewing it as an important step toward peace. During the visit, the Commission met with various political parties to discuss starting dialogue in the region, and the parties expressed strong support for the initiative.

Similar consultations will be held with Ethiopians living overseas, with much of the process conducted online to minimize time and financial constraints, he said, stating that discussions have already taken place with diaspora communities in several African countries, and virtual meetings are planned for communities in Europe, Asia, and the Trans-Atlantic region.

In-person consultations have begun in Pretoria, South Africa, and the Commission will hold sessions in Washington, D.C., from August 23 – 31, 2025, which will be followed by consultations in Toronto (Canada), London (UK), and Stockholm (Sweden). The collected agendas will be presented to the Commission Council for review.

The Chief Commissioner stressed that the national dialogue will be inclusive, impartial, and guided by Ethiopia’s constitution and approximately 4,000 agendas are expected to be reviewed, with those achieving broad consensus forwarded to the executive body for implementation under the Commission’s oversight.

Prof. Mesfin encouraged diaspora members to actively participate, seek clarifications on key issues, and submit constructive proposals of genuine national interest.

Agendas could be submitted via the Commission’s website, email, telephone, or through relatives and friends in Ethiopia, he added.

The ENDC’s mission is to create conducive conditions for national consensus by identifying the root causes of division and discord through research and public dialogue, and by presenting recommendations to relevant bodies.

Since its establishment, the commission has undertaken a wide range of activities aimed at ensuring that all segments of society have a voice and can contribute meaningfully to the national dialogue.

Prof. Mesfin also noted that the Commission is committed to moving forward efficiently to achieve the desired outcome in the shortest possible time, while ensuring broad and equitable participation across the country and abroad.
