Africa-Press – Ethiopia. In the effort to set a new record of planting 700 million seedlings in the remaining hours, the data system of tree planting sites across the nation is geo-referenced and reliable, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced today.
Having planted indigenous tree saplings and fruit trees in Yeka Mountain at midday, Prime Minister Abiy said he was confident given the pace of the planting is maintained in the remaining hours, it would be possible to surpass the 700 million target.
He was quoted as saying, ” If we work with the same intensity as this morning, there’s no doubt that we can achieve more than our goal in the remaining hours.”
“This number is geo-referenced, so as soon as a tree is planted, the data is automatically sent to the center. This means the data coming from across the country is not a concern.” he stated.
The Prime Minister emphasized the broad participation in the campaign, noting, “Men, women, the elderly, children, and adults are all taking part. If we continue with this speed and intensity, we’ll achieve our goal in the next two to three hours. The weather is beautiful, and there’s still plenty of time.”
He urged everyone to keep planting, saying, “Let’s continue, let’s plant, let’s achieve our plan. The result comes from work. Those who have planted should continue, and those who haven’t yet should plant in a convenient location in their area. Planting is essential; there are still many places that need to be planted.”
“We have bearing fruit plants and getting results from our planting efforts,” he added. “I would like to urge everyone to be encouraged, to work hard, to plant, and to achieve our plans. The results so far are very promising, and I hope the planting will continue with strength in the remaining hours.”
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Abiy unveiled the start of the campaign in Jimma, aiming to plant 700 million seedlings across the nation.
He highlighted the special features of planting in the Yeka Mountain planting site, stating, “The planting in Jimma this morning was very good. What makes the planting here in Yeka Mountain unique is that terraces have been constructed to prevent further soil erosion.”
“The seedlings we are planting are indigenous and fruit trees,” he said. “We’ve done this; so they can have value, be consumed, and protect the environment in the future,” Prime Minister Abiy pointed out.
Ethiopia is on track to plant approximately 48 billion trees by the end of this rainy season, positioning the country as a global leader in large-scale greening restoration efforts.
