Startup Ethiopia Forum Held in Presence of PM Abiy Ahmed

Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The “Startup Ethiopia Forum’’ was held in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at Adwa Victory Memorial Museum yesterday.

Senior government officials and representatives of the private sectors as well as youth entrepreneurs (start-ups) also attended the forum.

Speaking on the occasion, Labor and Skills Minister Muferihat Kamil noted that start-ups have been facing several bottlenecks in operations.

By taking these into consideration, the government has ratified new policies and law amendments to address the problems, she said.

In particular, decision that enables them to use 100 percent of the foreign currency they earn to solve their financial problems, the minister revealed.

Noting that an e-commerce opportunity has been set by the government to help them sell their products, Muferihat said, adding that activities are have also been underway to solve problems related with manufacturing shades in an organized way.

Innovation and Technology Minister Belete Molla said on his part that the government has been making operational improvement for the sector, understanding its irreplaceable role in the building economy.

He stated that a clear policy and financial support framework is prepared for startups with the objective of creating favorable environment for the sector.

According to him, the ministry has done a lot to enable entrepreneurs change their business ideas into products and to play their role in the development of the economy.

State Finance Minister Eyob Tekalign said several amendments have been made in the digital sector following the national reform in the country.

The policy direction set for institutions to support startups in a coordinated way enables to solve problems.

Eyob stated that there are many young people in Ethiopia who can solve the problems of the world beyond Ethiopia, if favorable conditions are created for them.

With respect to this, the policy issued for the development of startups plays a significant role in supporting the youth, he added.

Ethiopian Capital Market Authority Director-General Biruk Taye explained that startup and capital market have strong cohesion.

The government’s attention to the sector encourages startups and has created a favorable environment, the director-general said.

According to him, the policy has ushered in good news to startups who have many dreams.
