Africa-PressEthiopia. March 24/2021(ENA) Modernized and fully capacitated transport and logistics sector is key in realizing the country’s aspiration of unleashing its potential of tourism, mining, and manufacturing to ascertain prosperity, President Sahlework Zewde said.

Opening the first Ethiopian Transport Investment Summit today, President Sahlework emphasized the need for private sector involvement though the government is expected to play significant role.

In the efforts we exert to lift up our country to the very peak of prosperity, we all need to have a consensus and common understand, she added.

Sahlework urged pertinent stakeholders to contribute their due share towards the implementation of the 10 year perspective development plan in general and realizing the a modern and accessible transport and logistics sector.

Transport Minister Dagmawit Mogos said the 10-year perspective development plan with its inclusive and comprehensive goals shall bring profound change in economic, social and administrative and institutional aspects.

In doing so, she pointed out that the transport and logistics sector are expected to play the leading roles as major enablers.

An investment in the transport and logistics sector of Ethiopia has the highest return as the supply and demand gap is clearly observed, she added.

She said that it also brings the best interest in the form of accelerated growth and sustainable development that would further boost trade and competition in the region.

Without the advanced skills and knowledge sharing platforms with the private actors, it would be difficult to satisfy the ever increasing public demand, Dagmawit stressed.

“We believe that we are opening up our sector to the wider investment potentials it shall bring more efficiency, provides more economic and social opportunities and of course benefits the investor through return on investment and its related multilayer outcomes,” the Minister elaborated.

Some 300 domestic and international investors including renowned international logistics and port service provider companies are participating the two days conference organized by the Ministry of Transport.

The participants are expected to exchange views on how to work in partnership with the private sectors in the areas of various transport infrastructure projects including roads development, logistics, railways, and aviation.

The conference is organized with a view to promote the sector’s untapped investment opportunities and create a networking platform for potential foreign and local investors.
