Africa-Press – Ethiopia. The Joburg Film Festival kicks off in less than a week from today. To add to the anticipation, the festival organisers announced that they would bring a Hollywood influence to their line-up this year.

On Tuesday, festival organisers announced that award-winning actor, musician and philanthropist Malik Yoba will be in attendance and will hold a masterclass for youth development.

The festival’s sixth edition takes place between 27 February and 3 March 2024 in Sandton.

To jog your memory, the multi-talented American actor’s film credits include: Cop Land, ‘Til Death Do Us Part, Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too?, Smoke, Blue in the Face, Soul Food, and Betty and Coretta just to name a few.

Previously speaking to News24, Tim Mangwedi, executive director of the festival, said the films selected are from across the continent, making Pan-Africanism a focus for the festival.

“The Joburg Film Festival prides itself on being a multicultural festival located in the City of Gold,” he said.

He added:

World-renowned producer and director Melanie Nicole Clark will also attend this year.

Mangwedi said they were thrilled to welcome Malik Yoba and Melanie Nicole Clark to the Joburg Film Festival.

“His immense talent and dedication to his craft have made him a beloved figure in the world of entertainment globally, and we are honoured to have him join us for the festival this year. The team this morning also confirmed that the acclaimed producer Melanie Clark will be in attendance and look forward to gaining insights from her during the industry programme,” he said in a press release.

Where and How

Yoba will host a master class focused on youth development at the Joburg Film Festival this month.

The class is scheduled for Wednesday, 28 February, at the Sandton Convention Centre as part of the Industry Programme.
