Africa-Press – Gambia. Mr Lamin Queen Jammeh, the Gambia’s Minister of Information, has revealed that the government has given the green light for the sale of 60% of Gamcel, the national mobile operator, to the private sector.
Minister Jammeh recently made this statement to the Gambia Radio and Television Station (GRTS): “Government has given the green light for the sale of a majority share of Gamcel to private investors. »
The Cabinet, the minister added, also approved the demerger of GAMTEL, the national landline operator, into two separate entities for wholesale and retail services.
“The transfer of the Gamtel company to Gambia Fiber Company Limited has been approved, as well as the tender procedure for the privatization and sale of 60% of the shares of Gamcel,” he said: “These Decisions were taken in order to resolve the serious financial and operational difficulties facing the GAMTEL/Gamcel company and thus ensure the sustainability of the company. »
