Africa-Press – Gambia. Kevin Urama, the Chief Economist at the AfDB, shared this year’s African Economic Outlook:
▪Continental Growth: Africa’s GDP is projected to grow 3.9% in 2025, up from 3.3% in 2024.
▪Strong Performers:
🟠21 countries expected to grow above 5%
🟠Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, and Ethiopia projected at 7% — a level seen as crucial for breaking “the vicious cycle of poverty on the continent.”
▪Regional Outlook:
🟠East Africa: 5.9%
🟠West Africa: 4.3%
🟠North Africa: 3.6%
🟠Central Africa: 3.2%
🟠Southern Africa: 2.2%
▪Headwinds:
🟠Double-digit inflation in 15 countries
🟠Debt pressures with 27.5% of government revenue spent on interest payments
▪Potential Gains:
🟠Up to $1.43 trillion in additional annual revenue possible through improved tax and revenue systems
