Africa-Press – Gambia. Njie Manga of Medina Serigne Mass who is known as a champion farmer has called for improved coordination and review of structures at ‘seccos’ (groundnut buying/selling points).

Mr. Manga, the President of Barra Transport Control Association was speaking to VOICE in Kerewan North Bank Region, shortly after receiving his money from a team of cashiers from Gambia Groundnut Corporation (GGC) who were out to settle groundnut farmers of their monies following the closure of the 2024/25 trade season.

He called on government to review structures at seccos by hiring competent secretaries and he challenged communities to have more proactive committees to ensure fruitful groundnut trade season in the future.

Manga thanked President Adama Barrow and his government for their support to farmers to boost up production and productivity.

Commenting on road construction of Hakalang road and others in Upper Nuimi, he thanked President Barrow for fulfilling his promise noting that the people of Upper Nuimi suffered a lot, due to lack of good road.

Maimuna Saidy, a farmer from Mbuguma of Lower Nuimi also echoed similar sentiments noting that the payment of farmers of their monies demonstrated government’s commitment to welfare of farmers, citing an increase on tonnage price of groundnut.

She also called for proper training of secco managers and clerks to ensure proper buying of groundnuts and avoid credit buying.
