Africa-Press – Gambia. Ahmad Gitteh, a prominent member of the National People’s Party (NPP), has called for unity within the party following reports that Kebba Madi Bojang, the NPP’s National Youth President, is planning to leave the party to establish his own political movement.
In a widely shared WhatsApp voice message, Gitteh expressed his disappointment over the developments and appealed to party members to prioritize internal dialogue and reconciliation.
“I’ve heard that Kebba Madi Bojang is forming his own party, and I’ve also heard claims that I’m allegedly joining him,” Gitteh stated. “In every group, there will be differences—some people will be satisfied, others won’t—but the key to resolving such issues is through open and honest conversation.”
Gitteh stressed the importance of maintaining party unity, especially in the politically significant West Coast Region. He warned that fragmentation within the party could weaken its position and hinder progress.
“Splintering doesn’t serve political parties well. What we should aim for is cohesion, particularly in the West Coast Region,” he said. “Within the party, we all play different roles—some of us are like big goats, others like bulls or camels. Kebba Madi is among the ‘camels’ in the NPP—one of our key figures. I’m not saying he’s the only one, but he matters.”
Gitteh also clarified that he is less concerned with the reasons behind Bojang’s reported departure and more disappointed by the decision itself. He acknowledged past differences with Bojang, particularly surrounding the Brikama Area Council, but emphasized the importance of mutual respect and internal conflict resolution.
“Kebba and I had our disagreements in the past, but I’ve never violated his rights,” he said. “I urge our party elders to step in when challenges arise and help resolve them internally. Since the news broke, three ministers have contacted me to ask if I’m involved. What I want to emphasize is this: let’s not allow outsiders to intervene in issues we can solve ourselves within the West Coast.”
Gitteh’s remarks appear aimed at de-escalating tensions and encouraging a more unified front as the NPP faces internal challenges.
