Africa-Press – Gambia. An Islamic author, Yusupha Jaiteh, has dedicated his newly written book on politics and religion to veteran Gambian politician and lawyer, Ousainou Darboe.

The dedication was announced on Tuesday at the United Democratic Party (UDP) office, where Jaiteh explained that the publication explored the relationship between Islam and governance, highlighting the importance of understanding political leadership through the principles of Islamic religion.

Speaking during a briefing, Jaiteh said the book was motivated by a desire to educate Gambians on the role of Islamic values in political engagement.

“The reason we gathered here today is because of this book I wrote about politics and religion. People often misunderstand politics, thinking it is merely arguments or entertainment that ends with this life,” he remarked.

Jaiteh noted that individuals aspiring to leadership must understand governance within the Islamic framework, describing ruling as a serious responsibility that required moral and ethical grounding.

He explained that the book was dedicated to Lawyer Darboe in recognition of his political contributions rather than partisan support.

“The book is dedicated to Lawyer Ousainou Darboe not because I support his party, but because of his significance in the country’s political history,” Jaiteh stated.

The author emphasizes that politics guided by Islamic faith promotes fairness and accountability, warning that leaders who fail in their responsibilities will ultimately be accountable for their actions.

“A true leader cannot mislead citizens or harm the economy. Gambians must vote with a clear understanding of their responsibilities,” he added.

Jaiteh urged Islamic scholars and citizens to use religious principles as a guide in political participation, stressing that ethical leadership remained essential for national development.

Responding to the dedication, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe praised the initiative, describing the book as an important contribution to public education.

“People often think politics ends in this world without realizing its broader moral implications. This book can help guide citizens to make decisions according to the Islamic faith,” he said.

Darboe further encouraged the use of translations and audio formats to ensure wider accessibility.

The book, which addresses the intersection of governance, ethics and Islam, is expected to be launched soon, with the aim of promoting responsible political participation rooted in religious values.
