Africa-Press – Gambia. The Brikama Magistrates’ Court Tuesday convicted and sentenced Sulayman Darboe, a resident of Brikama, to one-year-imprisonment with hard labour without an option of a fine.

Mr. Darboe’s conviction and sentencing came after he pleaded “guilty” to charges of conspiracy and stealing.

He appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou along with a co-accused, Gibril Sanneh, who pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Darboe and Sanneh, both Gambians residing in Brikama, appeared before the court on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing contrary to Sections 341 and 226 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025, Laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence, the two men, on Monday, 31st August 2025, in Brikama, West Coast Region, conspired among themselves to commit a felony and theft.

On the second count, it was alleged that the accused persons jointly stole a Techno Spark 7 mobile phone valued at D8,000, being the property of Nyima Sanyang of Jamisa.

When the charges were read and explained to them, Sulayman Darboe pleaded guilty to both counts, while Gibril Sanneh denied the charges.

In delivering judgment, Magistrate Sambou sentenced the first accused, Sulayman Darboe, to one year imprisonment with hard labour without the option of a fine on the first count.

On the second count, he was ordered to pay a compensation of D8,000 to the complainant, in default of which he will serve an additional six months imprisonment.

The case was adjourned to 20th October 2025 for PW1 to testify in the on-going trial of the second accused person, Gibril Sanneh, who pleaded not guilty.
