Africa-Press – Gambia. US director Steven Spielberg will receive a career award and will be honored at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival, scheduled for February, the organization announced.

“With an incredible career, Steven Spielberg has not only enthralled generations of viewers around the world, he has given new meaning to cinema as a factory of dreams. […] If the Berlinale 2023 represents a new beginning, we couldn’t have found a better way to do so than with Spielberg’s excellent work”, said the festival’s directors, Mariete Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian, in a statement.

In Berlin, Steven Spielberg will receive the Golden Bear of Honor and the festival will screen his most recent film, “The Fabelmans”, inspired by his adolescence and early years as a director.

Steven Spielberg, 75 years old, “is one of the most renowned directors in the world. His work, with more than one hundred films and series, is unique in the history of international cinema over the last 60 years, due to its enormous diversity”, underlines the festival .

Spielberg’s “dream factory”, which earned him dozens of awards, including three Oscars, includes drama, comedy, action or science fiction, in films such as “Jaws” (1975), “ET- The Extraterrestre” ( 1982), “Indiana Jones”, “Schindler’s List” (1993), “Minority Report” (2002), “Lincoln” (2012) or “West Side Story” (2021).

The 73rd edition of the Berlin Film Festival will run from 16 to 26 February 2023.
