“Countries that have navigated the challenging path from conflict to peace are able to offer crucial insights,” she wrote, adding that Tangara’s participation would underscore The Gambia’s enduring commitment to sustaining peace.

The upcoming session aims to leverage such success stories to guide UN peacebuilding efforts, particularly in light of increasing global insecurity and threats to democratic institutions. Member states will engage in discussions on best practices, identify persistent challenges, and explore reforms to enhance the UN’s capacity to support fragile states emerging from conflict.

Dr. Tangara, a seasoned diplomat instrumental in The Gambia’s political transition, is expected to address key themes including institutional reform, transitional justice, and citizen participation. His remarks will also reflect on The Gambia’s collaboration with international partners and the nuanced role of external support in fragile contexts.

Established in 2005, the UN Peacebuilding Commission functions as an intergovernmental advisory body dedicated to supporting peace efforts in countries affected by conflict.
