Africa-Press – Gambia. In a significant political shift, fifteen officials from the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) have resigned and declared allegiance to the newly formed National Democratic Party (NDP), led by Kebba Madi Bojang. The wave of defections occurred over a span of less than two weeks, with twelve resigning on a single day—Monday—alone.
The NDP, announcing the latest resignations via its official Facebook page, described the move as a clear sign of discontent within the NPP’s ranks and a turning tide in The Gambia’s political landscape.
“In a dramatic turn of events, 12 NPP executive members have tendered their resignation, sending shockwaves through the party’s grassroots base,” the NDP statement read. “This wave of resignations highlights deepening internal dissatisfaction and signals a growing shift in political loyalty. With these high profile departures, it’s clear the NPP is losing grip on the grassroots. The political ground is shaking, and the message from the grassroots is loud and clear: change is coming.”
The twelve officials who resigned on Tuesday and joined the NDP are:
Mba Binta Bojang – 2nd Vice Chairperson, Kombo East Constituency
Sally Dampha – Female Youth Coordinator, Kombo East Constituency
Jali Lamin Mbaye – Public Relations Officer, Farato NPP Executive Committee
Sally Jallow – Deputy Treasurer, Jabang NPP Executive
Musu Camara – Female Youth Coordinator, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Nyima Sonko – Female Youth Coordinator, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Ndey Saine – Deputy Organizing Secretary, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Morro Jawla – Deputy Auditor, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Alasan Camara – Female Co-opted Member, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Isatou Suwaneh – Women Mobilizer, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Musa Baldeh – Youth Coordinator, Jalanbang NPP Executive
Ratatouille Sowe – Chairperson, Jalanbang NPP Executive
These resignations follow three earlier defections:
Bakary Sanyang, NPP Constituency Secretary General, Kombo East
Molly Cham, Youth Coordinator, Sanementereng Constituency
Mariama Jallow, Treasurer, Brikama South Constituency
The cumulative resignations represent a notable loss for President Adama Barrow’s NPP and a potentially significant boost for Kebba Madi Bojang’s emerging political movement as the 2026 electoral season approaches.
