The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has been awarded more than D3 million (approximately $50,000) after being selected as one of 50 global finalists in the prestigious 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge. The Council’s proposal was chosen from a competitive pool of over 630 submissions from 33 countries.
“We are proud to announce that Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has been selected as one of 50 global finalists in the prestigious 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge!” the Council announced. Selected from over 630 applications across 33 countries, KMC’s innovative proposal stood out for its bold approach to tackling real urban challenges and improving lives.”
As a finalist, KMC will receive $50,000 in seed funding to test its proposed idea and participate in the Bloomberg Ideas Camp—an intensive workshop that brings together global city leaders and experts to refine their solutions.
“As a finalist, KMC will receive $50,000 to test our idea and join the Bloomberg Ideas Camp alongside top city leaders and experts from around the world,” the Council said.
The Challenge aims to identify and support groundbreaking urban innovations with the potential to improve city life. In January 2026, 25 of the 50 finalists will be selected to receive an additional $1 million each to fully implement their projects.
“This global recognition is a testament to our ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainable development, and delivering better services for the people of Kanifing,” the Council stated via its official Facebook page.
The Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge is an international competition that encourages cities to develop inventive solutions to their most pressing urban issues.
