Marie Sock Urges Action after Bureau Worker’S Death

Africa-Press – Gambia. Gambian presidential aspirant Marie Sock has called on the Central Bank and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action following the death of Isatou Fatty, a young employee at a local bureau.

In a video statement shared with this medium, Sock extended her condolences to the family of the deceased and described the incident as “a cause for serious concern,” noting similar cases involving bureau workers in the past.

“This is negligence,” she said, holding both the bureau’s management and licensing authorities responsible. “The Central Bank should ensure that all licensed bureaus have secure facilities and proper safety measures before issuing licenses. Owners must be held accountable for any lapses.”

Sock urged the police to enforce strict security measures at financial service points, including the presence of security personnel, reinforced buildings, and surveillance cameras, to prevent future incidents.

Highlighting the legal responsibilities of bureau owners, she added, “In other countries, the owners would be sued for negligence. The same standards should apply here in The Gambia.”

She also called for systemic reforms, stressing that lessons from previous incidents should guide measures to protect employees and the public. “It cannot be that the lives of young people are cut short due to preventable risks. This must stop,” she said.

Sock concluded by reiterating her call for accountability, proper security measures, and stricter oversight of financial service providers, urging authorities to act promptly to safeguard citizens.
