Africa-Press – Gambia. The opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has described its flag-bearer, Saikou Sawo, as a disciplined and service-driven leader whose commitment to national development is guided by selfless public service.
In a statement shared with The Voice, the PPP says Mr. Sawo places strong emphasis on women’s participation, particularly at the grassroots level, noting their role in supporting economic development.
“The national mission is proven leadership, not promises. Guided by military service, corporate experience and devotion to his homeland, he embodies service-driven leadership,” the party said.
PPP adds that together with his running mate, Nenneh Cheyassin Kebe, Mr. Sawo is ready to lead what it described as a national movement aimed at ushering The Gambia into a “Golden Era.”
The party called on Gambians to support leadership “tested by service, proven by results and guided by national interest,” adding that it seeks to restore dignity, strengthen institutions and create opportunities for all citizens regardless of tribe, region or background.
According to the statement, the PPP’s commitment to women’s empowerment reflects its focus on inclusion, fairness and national unity, stressing that women should be partners in governance.
The party also says its members are encouraged to participate freely in leadership decisions, which it described as evidence of internal democracy and institutional renewal.
