Africa-Press – Gambia. A renowned Senegalese tourism expert and author, Mouhamed Faouzou Démé, will launch his latest book, “The Complexity and Complementarity of Tourism,” on April 4, 2026, in Dakar, in an event coinciding with Senegal’s Independence Day celebrations.
The publication examines the interconnected nature of the tourism industry, highlighting the importance of collaboration, sustainability, biodiversity conservation and community engagement in advancing Africa’s tourism sector.
According to the author, the book also pays tribute to three prominent African tourism figures whose leadership has contributed to positioning the continent as a competitive global destination.
They are Kenya’s former Tourism Minister, Najib Balala; former Seychelles Tourism Minister and former President of the African Tourism Board, Alain St. Ange; and The Gambia’s former Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and current Minister of Regional Government and Religious Affairs, Hamat Bah.
Démé described the trio as visionary leaders whose commitment to sustainable and inclusive tourism development has helped shape Africa’s tourism landscape and inspired a new generation of tourism professionals across the continent.
The official launch in Dakar will feature a book signing session, panel discussions and cultural performances. Policymakers, tourism stakeholders and industry leaders are expected to attend and deliberate on the future of tourism development in Africa.
A second event is scheduled for later in April 2026 in Banjul, where a special tribute will be paid to Hamat Bah. The event is expected to underscore the strong cultural and economic ties between Senegal and The Gambia, as well as their shared vision of strengthening regional cooperation through tourism.
With more than three decades of experience in tourism development and policy innovation, Démé has served as Technical Adviser to several Ministers of Tourism in Senegal and contributed to the formulation of national tourism strategies. He is widely recognised as an advocate of sustainable tourism and Pan-African cooperation.
“The Complexity and Complementarity of Tourism” is expected to serve both as a scholarly contribution and a call to action for governments, private sector actors and communities to harness tourism as a driver of unity, economic growth and environmental stewardship across Africa.*
