Africa-Press – Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in the Ghanaian people’s dedication to fostering national integration and promoting equality through balanced representation across regions and genders in the public sector.
Speaking at the Post-Election Evaluation Dialogue organized by the National Peace Council in Koforidua, the President emphasized the importance of unity and social cohesion in advancing the nation’s development.
President Mahama called on citizens to eschew divisive traits that threaten societal harmony and to embrace positive commitments that align with the aspirations of democratic values.
He highlighted that such efforts were vital for strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions and ensuring lasting peace.
The dialogue served as a platform for stakeholders to build consensus on mechanisms to enhance election integrity, deepen national cohesion, and promote political tolerance.
It also aimed to reinforce peace-building initiatives essential for sustainable national development.
President Mahama announced the implementation of a new peace index policy, developed in collaboration with the National Peace Council.
This initiative is part of a broader range of interventions designed to deepen national consensus, improve conflict prevention strategies, and foster public trust in the institutions that uphold Ghana’s democracy.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, and inclusiveness.
“I will ensure that all recommendations are submitted to the appropriate Institutions, including the Constitution Review Committee, for study,” he said.
Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, Chairman of the National Peace Council read the proposals made from the Post 2020 Election as the proceeds that contributed to the credible and violence – free election in 2024.
Some of the proposals included enhancement of mechanism for intra-party and inter-party dialogue, adjudication and sanction regime to deal with impunity, promoting inclusive participation of women youths and persons with disability in political governance.
Mr. Affail Monney, former president of the Ghana Journalists Association, called on the National Peace Counsel to support training workshops for the media to capacitate them in critical areas of tolerance in election reporting to ensure peace journalism.
Peace journalism focuses on promoting tolerance and collaboration.
