Africa-Press – Ghana. The much-anticipated Soccer Academy Recruitment Exercise, organized by the National Sports College (NSC) got underway in Winneba on Thursday, July 10, with an exciting opening day.
As part of a four-year project, the star-studded event brought together 25 young footballers across the continent, each displaying remarkable talent and determination in pursuit of a dream yet to unfold.
Spearheading the selection process were Coach Oti Akenten, former Technical Director of the GFA, Coach Didi Dramani of Accra Hearts of Oak and Coach Prosper Ogum, former head coach of Asante Kotoko.
Mr. Bawah Fuseini, Director, National Sports College in an interview commended the young players for participating in the exercise and reassured them of the college’s dedication to offering top-quality training and unwavering support.
“This is a first step in a long journey and we are you that we will give you the best in terms of training and career progression. We will do everything possible for you to achieve your aims.”
He further lauded the wealth of experience brought by the coaches who led the recruitment exercise.

He mentioned that the selected players would be placed in schools within the Winneba area, making it easier for them to balance their education and training without any undue pressure.
The Director thanked Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation for entrusting the college with the mandate to host the event.
Mr. Oti Akenten, former Technical Director of the GFA highlighted the impressive expertise of the coaches who led the exercise, applauding their dedication and the strong influence they had on its success.
He expressed confidence that the selected players would make the most of their time at the college, using the opportunity to grow and eventually earn places at the national level.
“Wherever you are just keep on playing. Persist which is one of the qualities of a good player and you may even come out to be the best,” he urged.
Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, Head Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak also underscored the significance of both talent and character in nurturing young players.
“Thinking about the next phase of the development of Ghana Football means that the talents we find today determines what sort of future we are going to have”, he said.
He stated that the National Sports College had the potential to produce first-team players within the next four years and encouraged the coaches in charge to thoroughly understand and apply the development model in place.
Dr. Prosper Ogum, former head Coach of Asante Kotoko said “For football, if you want to be a great player, you need to have a lot of time to be able to train and develop what you have. Each of the players have qualities they can build so we are happy with what we have seen so far”.
