Africa-Press – Ghana. The newly elected executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Upper East Region had officially been sworn in to steer affairs for the next three years.
The Upper East Regional Supervising High Court Judge, His Lordship Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah, administered both the Oath of Office and the Oath of Allegiance to the four-member executives.
The new executives are Mr Albert Sore as Regional Chairman, Mr Joshua Asaah as Vice Chairman, Mr Anthony Adongo Apubeo as Secretary, and Mr Raymond Wegwi as Treasurer.
In a short address after the swearing-in, His Lordship Justice Danquah emphasised the critical role of the media in sustaining democracy and promoting national development.
He called on the new leadership to guide journalists in the region to uphold ethical standards and professional integrity in the discharge of their duties.
He also encouraged the new executives to strengthen collaboration with key institutions and stakeholders in order to deepen the impact of journalism on the region’s development.
Mr Albert Sore, in his inaugural remarks as Regional Chairman, thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and his team.
He pledged to build on the legacy of the immediate past administration and to pursue a collective vision that promotes unity and professionalism among journalists in the region.
“We are committed to fulfilling the promises we made during the campaign,” Mr Sore said adding that the new executives would work towards ensuring inclusivity and fostering a stronger, more vibrant media fraternity.
Touching on the immediate priorities of the new administration, Mr Sore announced that preparations will soon commence for the 4th edition of the Regional GJA Awards, a flagship event that celebrates journalistic excellence in the region.
He gave the assurance that the new leadership would strive to maintain the high standards associated with the awards scheme and called for support from all members to achieve the Association’s goals.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Association and some staff of the judiciary.
