Africa-Press – Ghana. The Akosombo Hydro Spikers Volleyball Team emerged winners of the maiden edition of the ‘Thomas Nyarko Ampem Community Volleyball Gala’ after securing 2-0 victory against the Osiabura Majesty Spikers in the finals.
The South Senchi Hit Spikers took third place followed by the New Powmu Bridge Spikers and the Anum Mountain Spikers in that order in the gala competition held at Akosombo which featured 12 communities. It was organized by Mr Nyarko Ampem, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman
Constituency and aimed at promoting the game and helping to unearth the talents of the young people. All the teams were awarded prizes ranging from trophies, volleyball and some souvenirs.
Mr Ampem expressed his admiration for the level of talent exhibited, saying “the gala has revealed the depth of potential in our communities”, pledging to improve infrastructure to promote the game.
He said: “I am proud to have personally overseen the construction of volleyball courts at South Senchi and Osiabura” and promised to support and build more volleyball courts in the local communities and to create opportunities to nurture talents.
Nana Ansah Prem, the Chief of Akosombo, called for strengthened collaboration between Mr Ampem and Mr Kenneth Nana Addo, the MP for Okere, also the Patron of the Eastern Regional Volleyball Association in advancing the growth and development of volleyball.
The chief also urged the youth to channel their energies into productive activities and thereby contribute positively to fostering local economic growth and development.
