Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore-Mampong, has initiated measures to complete several abandoned government infrastructure projects within the municipality.

The move, he explained, was in line with national infrastructure development policies aimed at ensuring the effective use of taxpayers’ money while delivering essential projects to improve the livelihoods of residents.

Speaking in an interview in Kumasi, Mr Alhassan expressed concern over the state of numerous government-funded projects which, he said, had been left to deteriorate under the previous administration.

He stressed the urgent need to complete such neglected projects to enhance the welfare and security of the people.

Mr. Alhassan disclosed that work had resumed on the long-abandoned Municipal Court at Aboabo Number Two, which had been stalled for several years.

When completed, he said, the facility would help decongest the justice delivery system and improve security within the area.

He revealed that, with the support of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Muntaka Mubarak, the Assembly had secured funding to commence the redevelopment of the 24-hour Economy Market at Aboabo this month.

The market project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Touching youth development, the MCE noted that three Astroturf football fields were currently under construction to promote sports and recreation.

He said the facility at Akurem was about 90 per cent complete, while that of Aboabo Number Two Middle B had reached 85 per cent of completion.

Work on the Dogo Moro Park Astroturf field at Asawase, he added, was also progressing steadily.

Mr. Alhassan also mentioned that, through the persistent advocacy of the MP, key roads at Parkoso, Adukrom and Sepe were being mobilised for improvement to ease transportation challenges in the municipality.

He said new streetlights were being installed across the area, with faulty ones undergoing repairs, to enhance night-time security and beautify the environment.

In the areas of health, education and water supply, the MCE said the Assembly was constructing classroom blocks, Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, maternity wards, and mechanised boreholes as part of efforts to integrate social services into the municipality’s development agenda.

He noted that a maternity block, as well as a two-unit Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and eye office with washroom facilities and a security post, was nearing completion at the Adenyase Health Centre.

Mr. Alhassan further pointed out that a six-unit ground-floor classroom block, comprising an office, store, and staff common room, together with a 69-metre drain measuring 0.9 metres in depth, was under construction at Aboabo.

Additionally, he said work would soon progress on a three-unit recovery ward at Buobai, which includes offices, washrooms, and storerooms.

He also mentioned the continuation of a six-unit first-floor classroom block project at Adenyase/Sawaba, complete with an office, store, and a six-seater water closet facility.

Another six-unit classroom block, featuring a staff common room and office, is currently under construction at Asokore-Mampong, he added.

Mr. Alhassan assured residents that his office remained open to consultations, suggestions, and constructive criticism to accelerate development in the municipality.
