Africa-Press – Ghana. Environmental activist and peace campaigner Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang is appealing to the United Nations Organisation (UNO), and its Secretary General to take decisive and far-reaching measures to ensure lasting peace in countries currently experiencing heightened tensions.
Mr Apeakorang mentioned the countries to include Iran, Russia, the United States of America.
In an interview in Accra, said Mr Apeakorang said: “The appeal had become necessary in the light of recent developments reported from these countries, which have serious implications for international security, diplomatic relations, and global stability.
“I’m respectfully appealing to the Secretary General and the global peace body, the UN, to take decisive and far-reaching measures to ensure lasting peace in Iran, Russia, the United States of America, China, and other countries currently experiencing heightened tensions and instability.”
“These events generate widespread concern among citizens, civil society organisations and the international business community.”
He noted that the UN was founded with the principal mandate of maintaining world peace and security, the global community looked to the Organisation for leadership, mediation, and coordinated action in times of escalating geopolitical uncertainty.
“In the past few months, however, there is a growing perception the UN has not been proactive in response to certain critical global developments.
“While the complexity of international diplomacy is acknowledged, prolonged silence or limited engagement risks eroding public confidence in the UN’s historic mission.
Mr Apeakorang, who is also the Founder and President of Save The Nation For Future Leaders, a non-government organisation in Ghana dedicated to environmental sustainability and the promotion of responsible global citizenship, said he consequences of ongoing and emerging conflicts were already exerting a negative impact on global business, trade, investment, economic stability, and human life and property as uncertainty, disrupted supply chains, and security risks persistently undermine growth and international cooperation.
He, however, said peace remained an indispensable foundation for sustainable economic development.
“Furthermore, I firmly believe if the UN succeeds in maintaining world peace, the huge expenditures on weapons, military operations and the tragic loss of human life could be redirected towards environmental sustainability, climate action, and responsible resource management.
“Such a shift would save lives and address the urgent ecological challenges facing humanity, thereby securing a viable future for generations to come,” he added.
Mr Apeakorang said Save The Nation For Future Leaders had consistently demonstrated its commitment to the cause of peace, recalling that in 2023 and 2024, the organisation petitioned the UN to initiate dialogue aimed at ending the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
In 2024, he noted that the Organisation again petitioned the UN to take urgent steps to safeguard world peace following significant global events and wrote to the office in June 2025 to appeal for renewed global action to ensure global peace.
These efforts, he said, reflected the enduring belief of Save the Nation For Future Leaders in the UN as the foremost platform for dialogue, cooperation, and conflict prevention.
Mr Apeakorang said Save The Nation For Future Leaders stood ready to engage constructively with the UN on strategies that linked peacebuilding with environmental protection, sustainable development, and responsible global resource management.
“We’re eager to contribute ideas, advocacy, and collaboration in pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world,” he said.
He expressed trust in the current UN Secretary General and his continued commitment to the principles of peace, justice, and international solidarity
Mr Apeakorang urged the UN, under your leadership, to intensify diplomatic engagement, mediation, and multilateral action to de-escalate tensions, promote dialogue, and uphold the founding ideals of the Organisation.
“By doing so, the UN will not only fulfil its historic mandate but also help redirect global priorities from conflict towards sustainability, cooperation and shared prosperity,” he added.
