Africa-Press – Ghana. Thirty-six apprentices under the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), Bolgatanga Estate Zone, have successfully taken part in their final Trade Test examination after completing years of training in tailoring and dressmaking.
The examination, which included one male trainee, was conducted under the supervision of officials from the Standards, Trade Testing and Certification Department of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) to ensure conformity with national skill and competency standards.
The Trade Test forms a crucial part of the certification process, assessing both the practical and theoretical knowledge of apprentices before they are awarded professional qualifications by the NVTI.
Addressing the candidates, Mr Isaac Ayamga, the Chairman of the Bolgatanga Estate Zone of the GNTDA, commended the apprentices for their dedication, discipline, and perseverance throughout their apprenticeship.
He urged them to uphold professionalism and creativity as they transition into their careers.
Mr Ayamga also encouraged the youth to reconsider their perception of tailoring and dressmaking as professions reserved for those who were not academically inclined, emphasising that the fashion and garment industry was a lucrative and respectable trade, which required a high level of skill, innovation, and intelligence.
He expressed appreciation to the NVTI for its continuous collaboration and technical support, saying such partnerships had helped sustain quality training and enhanced the credibility of the Association’s programmes.
Upon successful completion, the candidates will be awarded NVTI trade certificates, officially recognising them as qualified tailors and dressmakers ready to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s growing fashion industry.
