Africa-Press – Ghana. A delegation from Absa Black Star Marathon on Thursday, July 3, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to Mr Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation.
This visit comes before the 2025 Absa Black Star Marathon, which will take place on July 26, 2025, at the Independence Square in Accra.
The Absa team, led by Nana Essilfuah Tamakloe, Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, stated that the visit was to brief the Minister on the preparations for one of Ghana’s finest marathons.
She extended an invite to the Sports Minister and President John Dramani Mahama as special guests for the event, which promises lots of thrills.
During the engagement, Mr Adams warmly welcomed the delegation and lauded their initiative of supporting the marathon event.
He reiterated the government’s strong commitment to supporting national sporting initiatives and emphasised the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure the event’s success.
Mr Adams urged Absa Bank to consider sponsoring other sporting activities while highlighting the critical role that corporate Ghana would play in igniting interest in sports.
He pointed out that supporting sports was not only beneficial for health but also created wealth and national pride.
The Sports Minister also appealed to Absa and its partners to engage key stakeholders, including emergency services such as ambulance providers and the Ghana Police Service, to ensure comprehensive safety measures and seamless event operations.
He stressed that public-private partnerships are vital to elevating Ghana’s sporting landscape and fostering greater community participation.
This year’s marathon themed “Your Story Matters” would include a 42.2 km race, a wheelchair event in both the men’s and women’s races, as well as a 10 km run, walk, and jog.
