Africa-Press – Ghana. The Aflao Traditional Council has expressed appreciation to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Germany for supporting border security through the construction of four weather-shed duty posts for the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Aflao Sector Command.

The newly completed facilities are expected to improve surveillance, operational efficiency, and the ability of officers to respond swiftly to security threats along the border corridor between Ghana and neighbouring Togo, an area known for heavy cross-border movement.

Delivering a speech on behalf of Torgbui Adzongaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, Torgbui Nii Kpambi Vedzesu V, Senior Divisional Chief of Teshie-Aflao, described the commissioning as a key milestone in national efforts to strengthen border security and safeguard Ghana’s territorial integrity.

He noted that borders are more than mere geographical lines; they represent the sovereignty, security, and identity of a nation, adding that effective border management is critical in tackling transnational crimes, including human trafficking, smuggling, and irregular migration.

Torgbui Kpambi Vedzesu said the new duty posts would provide immigration officers with improved working conditions and operational capacity, enabling them to discharge their duties professionally while maintaining public trust.

He emphasised that the commissioning demonstrated the commitment of both the German Government and Ghanaian authorities to strengthen border management systems while facilitating legitimate cross-border trade and travel with Togo.

Urging officers to perform their duties with vigilance, integrity, and professionalism, Torgbui Kpambi Vedzesu noted that their role reflects the authority of the state and the confidence of the Ghanaian people.

He also commended traditional authorities and the Gakli community for their cooperation in the project, stressing that security is a shared responsibility requiring collaboration between communities and security agencies.

Assuring GIS and other security agencies of the continued support of the Aflao Traditional Council, he said the facility would serve as a beacon for safety, order, and national pride in the region.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by officials of the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana High Commissioner to Togo, the Deputy Controller-General of Immigration, other security agencies, traditional leaders, and community members. The weather-shed duty posts are expected to significantly enhance border monitoring, provide better working conditions for officers, and facilitate efficient management of cross-border activities.
