Atwima Nwabiagya South MCE Denies Illegal Mining Links

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South in the Ashanti Region, has denied allegations linking him to illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the municipality.

He described the claims as false, baseless, lacking supporting evidence, insisting that he remained committed to working tirelessly to uplift communities and promote development.

In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkawie, the MCE urged residents, particularly stakeholders within the municipality, to disregard the allegations and continue supporting the Assembly’s developmental agenda.

The MCE was responding to recent accusations from some members of the public, including individuals within his own political party, suggesting that he was involved in illegal mining.

Mr Osei Boamah challenged anyone with evidence to substantiate the claims to present it to the appropriate authorities.

He emphasised that he was not an autocratic leader but a transparent one who actively engaged all stakeholders in the execution of his duties.

“My administration has consistently worked with the security agencies, the Minerals Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and community leaders to fight illegal mining and protect our natural resources,” he stated.

He noted that these efforts were well documented and verifiable by all stakeholders, adding that his commitment stemmed from his resolve to support President John Dramani Mahama’s initiatives, particularly the national fight against illegal mining.

“I will not betray the President. Rather, I will fully support his efforts with my utmost ability to ensure the success of his initiatives,” the statement concluded.
