Atwima Nwabiagya South: NDC Youth Protest Appointment of YEA Director

Africa-Press – Ghana. A group of youth affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has staged a protest at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) office in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality over the alleged appointment of a new Director from outside the municipality.

Mr. Kwabena Frimpong, the Deputy Constituency Youth Organiser, speaking on behalf of the group, expressed dissatisfaction over reports that an individual from Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South-West District had been appointed as the new YEA Director in Atwima Nwabiagya South.

He described the decision as unacceptable, arguing that since Mankranso has its own YEA office, the appointee should have been assigned there instead.

“I accommodated party youth in my own bedroom to protect them from harm during campaign periods. These are the kind of sacrifices that should be recognised through appointments,” Mr. Frimpong stated.

He appealed to the leadership of the NDC and the government to reconsider the decision and appoint someone from within Atwima Nwabiagya South to avoid anger, frustration, and possible disillusionment among the party’s grassroots in the area.

Mr. Frimpong also criticized what he described as a trend of marginalizing local party members, citing the allocation of the School Feeding Program to an individual from Suame Constituency as another example of unfairness.

When asked who he believed should be appointed, Mr. Frimpong suggested that any loyal and committed party member from the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency would be suitable.

He emphasised that appointing someone familiar with the local context would foster trust and accessibility, as such a person would better understand the challenges facing unemployed youth in the area.

During the protest, the demonstrators held placards with messages such as: “YEA in Atwima Should Go to Atwima Youth,” “Respect Atwima Nwabiagya Youth,” and “Our Director Must be from Atwima Nwabiagya South.”
