Africa-Press – Ghana. The much-anticipated hearing of the treason felony trial of #FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been adjourned to Monday, May 20.

The case was expected to be heard by the High Court on Monday, May 13, 2024, following a motion filed by lawyers of Barker-Vormawor seeking to challenge the constitutionality of the charge proffered against him.

When the case was called, however, a court clerk told parties present that the judge hearing the matter, Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuh was absent and on another assignment, communicating the next adjourned date.

The human rights activist on Sunday, May 12, took to his social media accounts to make a clarion call for empathisers and members of #FixTheCountry to show up in their numbers for the resumption of the trial which has been ongoing for the past two years.

Mr Barker-Vormawor expressed disappointment when heard that the hearing could not come off.

“We’ve come here, it’s been two years on trumped up charges by the regime security that they have always insisted that I wanted to overthrow this government. It is only an indictment of their own record, their understanding that they have so badly led this country, that every mindful citizen will want them out of office.

“We are committed to the rule of law and to the democracy that we have subscribed to. Ghanaians will show them the way out. I have zero interest in engaging in coup d’état,” he told.

“We have always been clear that our advocacy and what we’re doing is entitled to engineer for the rest of Ghanaians the justice that our democracy procures.”

Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been charged with two counts of treason felony after he made comments on social media that have been deemed to be a coup threat. He was arrested in February 2022 by the National Security after returning from the UK.
