Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has lauded CAF’s African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) initiative, saying that it will produce top football talents in the future.
The third edition of the ASFC would be held in Ghana for the first time, with eight countries competing in both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments.
The tournament would kick start on Wednesday, April 23, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, and the finals scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Speaking in an interview after the draw procedure in Accra, Gyan, one of the top African football stars participating in the event, commended CAF’s initiative.
“It is a great initiative from CAF for us Africans because in our time, we didn’t get the chance to show our skills to the whole world.”
“This generation will benefit from this CAF initiative, and I am hopeful that we are going to get lots of stars from both the boys and girls,” said Gyan.
He went on to say that it would provide a solid foundation not only for players, but also for young coaches and journalists who would receive training during the event.
Gyan extended his complete support to these young players, adding that he would help shape their dreams of becoming top football stars.
Ghana’s boys and girls teams, as well as other teams, are seeking to win the competition, with the first-place team receiving $300,000 and the second-place team receiving $200,000.
The third-place teams would also get $150,000.
