Africa-Press – Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in Mrs Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong as the substantive Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Mrs Ntow Sapong makes history as the first woman to head the GNFS and the first female Regional Commander in the Service’s history.
Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the leadership of the Service, reflecting decades of dedicated service and reform-driven administration.
During her tenure as Regional Commander in the Volta Region, she expanded operational coverage from 50 per cent to 99 per cent within one year through the establishment of more than 10 new fire stations, significantly enhancing emergency response capacity.
Prior to her elevation, she served as Director of Fire Safety, where she led key national reforms to strengthen fire prevention and safety compliance.
Her initiatives included the establishment of nationwide Fire Safety Taskforces and the introduction of an annual Fire Safety Week to deepen public awareness.
Under her leadership, the Directorate consistently exceeded its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) targets and secured a 30 per cent IGF retention to support operational efficiency.
CFO Ntow Sapong also strengthened manpower development and staff welfare, supervising the recruitment of 3,000 personnel and facilitating the promotion of 5,000 officers.
She is currently championing the development of a Basic Fire Safety curriculum through a partnership involving Ulster University in the United Kingdom and the Ghana Education Service to make fire safety education compulsory in basic schools nationwide.
In addition, she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management and Administrative Consultants (CIMAC), further strengthening her professional credentials.
Her leadership, reforms and strategic vision position her as a symbol of excellence and progress within Ghana’s emergency services sector.
