Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has held meetings with officials from the United States Embassy and the Canadian High Commission to commence talks on visa arrangements for Ghanaian football fans.
These preparatory talks follow Ghana’s Black Stars’ successful qualification for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Sports Ministry, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and senior directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure a collaborative approach to the upcoming tournament.
The US Embassy in Ghana delegation was led by Acting Ambassador Rolf Olson, while the Canadian delegation was also led by Acting High Commissioner Dennis Roussel.
Mr Ablakwa, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, in a social media post, said the objective of the meeting was to ensure mutual understanding of all sides on expectations and requirements.
He noted that the meeting was to enhance coordination, improve visa facilitation, and develop clear working roadmaps to maximise satisfaction for all parties.
“The meeting also discussed the need for special arrangements for football fans, officials and the team outside regular visa application processes.
“It was acknowledged that the recent reversal of US visa restrictions which had imposed single-entry visas was timely, as that will pave the way for multiple-entry visas, allowing Ghanaian fans to re-enter the US as they please after watching games in the two other host nations of Canada and Mexico,” said Mr Ablakwa.
The Minister expressed gratitude to GFA President Kurt Okraku for the thoughtful gift of Black Stars replica jerseys, a gesture that underscores the collaborative spirit and mutual commitment to ensuring a positive experience for all World Cup attendees.
Mr Ablakwa also noted that similar engagement is scheduled to be held with officials from the Mexican Embassy on Friday, October 24, 2025.
