GJA Elections Committee Engages Candidates on Electoral Processes

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee, together with the Electoral Commission’s Technical Advisor, have engaged candidates contesting the upcoming GJA national and regional elections on the electoral processes.

The engagement was to provide clarity on the process, particularly the introduction and operationalisation of proxy voting, which is being implemented in this year’s election.

A press release signed by Mr Peter Martey Agbeko, the Chairperson of the Committee, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the candidates were taken through the details of the proxy application and voting process, outlining the eligibility verification and digital systems now in place.

“This reform offers a legitimate voting alternative for a limited number of eligible members who are unable to cast their ballots in person for verifiable reasons,” it said.

The decision to introduce proxy voting was taken after careful consideration and was consistent with globally accepted electoral standards, the release said.

Twenty voters had been granted proxy status, following due diligence, it said, adding that four more were awaiting final confirmation.

The candidates were also informed of the location for the printing of ballot papers and encouraged to send their representatives to observe the process.

“The Elections Committee urges all candidates and stakeholders to continue upholding decorum and ethical standards as campaigning concludes and Election Day – Monday, June 30, 2025 – approaches,” it noted.
