Africa-Press – Ghana. Mrs Hannah Awadzi, Online Editor at the Ghana News Agency, has been named the Most Outstanding Female Journalist in Ghana (2025) at the prestigious Ghana Women Awards, held in Accra at the weekend.

The Ghana Women Awards is an annual event that honours women who have distinguished themselves in their careers and contributed meaningfully to national development.

Ghana Women Awards aims at celebrating the success of women of excellence in various facets of society.

Mrs Awadzi was awarded together with other Ghanaian women who have distinguished themselves over the period.

Mrs Awadzi’s recognition comes as no surprise to those familiar with her advocacy work for persons with disabilities, especially children, alongside her main profession as a journalist.

She is a passionate advocate and storyteller who has carved a niche in journalism by focusing on human-centered stories that amplify the voices of marginalized communities, especially persons with disabilities, children with special needs and their families.

Her reporting is known for its depth, empathy, and advocacy-driven approach.

Through her work, Mrs Awadzi has consistently challenged societal norms, pushed for inclusive policies, and inspired change across Ghana’s media landscape.

Upon receiving the award, a plaque and a certificate, Mrs Awadzi told the Ghana News Agency that she is overwhelmed with gratitude and reaffirmed her commitment towards using media as a tool for advocacy, inclusion and social justice.

She expressed her gratitude to the Ghana Journalists Association for nominating her for the awards.

“This award is for every woman who dares to tell stories that matter, and for every child whose voice deserves to be heard,” she said.

“I am deeply honoured and even more inspired to continue this journey.

“I will continue to encourage and mentor the younger generation, especially young journalists, to do their best. Embrace kindness, work diligently, and do your best because you make a difference, and God sees,” Mrs Awadzi added.

Other award winners for the night were Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow–Sarpong, who won the Legendary Woman Award, Mrs Patience Baffoe -Bonnie, Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award, Adeline Akweley Quarshie, Corporate Woman of the Year, Anita Akua Akuffo, Media Personality, who won the Most Promising Lady, Mrs Sylvia Linda Aku Larbi, Outstanding Female Architect, and Janet Agwiah, Outstanding Mid-wife.

Others were Empress Gifty Adorye, Outstanding Female Entertainer, Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye, Outstanding Military Personnel, Mrs Sarfoah Afua Ompong, Outstanding Female Nurse, DCFO Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, Outstanding Female Fire Service Personnel, Dr Marilyn Marbell-Wilson, Outstanding Female Doctor, Shirley Emma Fatima Tibilla, Outstanding Female media personality, AC Felicia Dadeboe Azuma, Outstanding Female GRA (Customs Division) Personnel, DOP (Mrs) Millicent Owusu, Outstanding Female Prisons Personnel, DCOI (Mrs) Maud Anima Quainoo, Outstanding Female Immigration Service Personnel, and Hajia Fuseina Fuseini, Outstanding Female Teacher.

The rest were Abigail Kissi, Outstanding Cosmetologist, Awurakua Antwi Anyaniwa, Awardee change maker, and Pastor Selina Baidoo, Outstanding Female Pastor, among others.

The Award was instituted in 2009 by Brain Consult in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
