Government Announces Three Days of National Mourning

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Government has announced programmes for the three days of national mourning, from Thursday, 7 August to Saturday, 9 August.

A statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesman and Minister in-charge of Government Communications, said this solemn period was dedicated to honouring the departed and providing an opportunity for national reflection and remembrance.

It said activities would commence on Thursday with a public laying of flowers and lighting of candles.

It noted that this act of remembrance would take place at the Ceremonial Garden at the front of the Presidency, from 13 hours.

The statement said members of the public, families, and friends were respectfully invited to participate.

It said the opportunity for the laying of flowers and lighting of candles would continue on Friday, 8 August, allowing further time for citizens to express their condolences and respect.

It said the period of national mourning would conclude on Saturday, 9 August, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials.”

The statement said the poignant event would begin at 17 hours at the Forecourt of the State House, where all Ghanaians and families would gather to reflect on the legacy and contributions of the departed.

It said these three days offered the nation a vital opportunity to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss they had experienced.

“We urge all citizens to observe the period of national mourning with dignity and respect,” it said

The statement said further details regarding the State Funeral and any additional arrangements would be communicated through official government channels.
