Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Ghana Navy, have strengthened their strategic alliance to ensure port and maritime security in Ghana.
The two institutions reaffirmed their commitment to maritime security when Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the Director General (DG) of the GPHA, received the new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, at the Authority’s headquarters.
The visit forms part of Commodore Asiedu-Larbi’s stakeholder engagement following his appointment as the FOC in May of this year.
The DG and the FOC had discussions on how to improve maritime security, particularly following the commencement of 24-hour operations at the ports of Tema and Takoradi.
They also deliberated on strengthening collaboration between the Ghana Navy and the GPHA, particularly in the areas of port safety and joint operations to safeguard Ghana’s territorial waters.
Commodore Asiedu-Larbi expressed his appreciation for the critical role of GPHA in national development, emphasising the Director General of the Navy’s commitment towards deepening their cooperation, for the mutual benefit of both institutions.
He commended GPHA for its continuous support to the Ghana Navy, ensuring a lasting relationship between the two institutions.
The Director General of GPHA congratulated the FOC of the Eastern Naval Command for his new role and reaffirmed the Authority’s willingness to maintain a closer collaboration, to ensure the safety and efficiency of port operations.
