Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Francis Dusey, the Ho West District Chief Executive, has charged students to compete with integrity as the fourth West Zone Inter-School Sports Festival opened at Tsito.
Mr Dusey urged participating students to uphold discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship as he graced the launch of the Annual West Zone Sports Festival as the Special Guest of Honour.
He commended the organising committee for sustaining the festival, describing it as an important platform for nurturing talent and strengthening unity among second-cycle institutions within the zone.
The participating schools include Awudome Senior High School (AWUSCO), Kpedze Senior High School (KPESCO), Avatime Senior High School (AVASEC), Akome Senior High Technical School (AKOSTECH), Tsito Senior High Technical School (TSISTEC), Abutia Senior Technical High School (ABUSTEC), and Dzolo Senior High School (DZOLOSEC).
The heads of all participating schools were present despite funding challenges and what officials described as attempts to suspend the festival.
The cadet corps from Tsito Senior High Technical School and Kpedze Senior High School added colour and discipline to the opening ceremony.
The festival would feature competitions in football, handball, basketball, netball, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, athletics and cross-country, with schools expressing readiness to showcase their best talents.
Mr Dusey applauded the sports masters, coaches and technical teams for what he described as their “unwavering commitment and tireless preparation,” noting that their mentorship continues to build character and teamwork across participating schools.
He encouraged the athletes to give their best, compete with integrity, respect the rules, and honour their opponents.
He also urged them to represent their schools with pride, because their performances reflected their preparation and determination.
Mr Dusey further encouraged the students to view the festival, not only as a contest but also as an opportunity to learn resilience, leadership, and unity.
The DCE wished all schools a successful, exciting and injury-free competition, expressing confidence that the event would further strengthen sports development in the district.
