Africa-Press – Ghana. An inter-club tennis event drawing participants from different regions has been successfully held, highlighting the growing importance of tennis in promoting unity and sports development in Ghana.
The three-day event, hosted by the Bui Power Tennis Club, brought together the Holy Family Tennis Club, the Techiman Tennis Club and the Wa Tennis Club for a series of competitive and friendly matches, as well as interactive sessions among players and officials.
The event was graced by Mr Ho Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, whose presence underscored the role of sports as a catalyst for youth development, social cohesion and regional integration.
Speaking at the event, Mr Maxwell Wumbilla Salifu, Chairman of Bui Power Tennis Club, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening collaboration among tennis clubs while creating opportunities for players to test their skills and gain exposure at the inter-regional level.
He stressed the need for sustained cooperation among clubs and regional tennis associations to nurture young talents and grow the sport from the grassroots.
Lt Col Suraj, Chairman of the Bono East Tennis Association, commended the organisers for the successful hosting of the tournament, noting that such engagements were key to improving standards and strengthening bonds within the tennis community.
Mr Isaac Aboagye Duah, President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, described the inter-club event as a step in the right direction towards expanding tennis beyond major urban centres and encouraged stakeholders to invest more in similar initiatives.
Mr Christopher Akanbonbnaab, Patron of Holy Family Tennis Club, also praised the organisation of the competition, saying it had fostered healthy rivalry, mentorship, and stronger inter-regional relationships.
Participants described the tournament as well-organised and beneficial, calling for its continuation and expansion to include more clubs across the country.
Organisers expressed appreciation to all participating clubs, officials and supporters, noting that such initiatives were crucial for the long-term growth and development of tennis in Ghana.
